WYOMING CAVALRY PARTNER WITH CASPER YOUNG
PROFESSIONALS NETWORK
TO HELP HOMELESS STUDENTS IN NATRONA COUNTY
(Casper, WY) -
"When we say - 'It's not JUST a Game, It's an Experience'
...that's only half the story," explains Wyoming Cavalry
Professional Indoor Football Team General Manager, Mike Layton.
"Wyoming Cavalry indoor football games are more than just
tackles, receptions, interceptions, hard hits, and touchdowns.
Cavalry games are about the whole experience - from the opening
ceremonies honoring our war heroes, through the four quarters of
hard-hitting, fast-paced football action, to the end of the game
watching our players celebrate their victory with the electric
slide as fans make their way onto the field to get autographs
and pictures."
"And, the
Wyoming Cavalry is "Not Just a Professional Indoor Team, We are
a Community Partner," continues Layton. The Wyoming Cavalry has
partnered with Casper Young Professionals Network (CYPN) to help
homeless students in Natrona County. The May 1 Cavalry home game
kicked off a month-long focus to help this program. Results of
the fundraising will be announced at the Cavalry's next home
game - May 30 against the Arizona Adrenaline.
"We have already
had many organizations interested in participating," says Cav's
Director of Business Operations, Argeri Layton. "Thanks to
Macy's and Grizzly Excavating. They jump-started our
campaign. We are donating a portion of the May 30 participating
sponsorship monies to the fundraising effort."
The Cavalry and
CYPN organizations are asking everyone that attends the May 30
Cavalry home game to bring a school supply item(s) with them.
These items will be collected by CYPN, and will be used for the
students for the 2008-2009 school year.
According to
Greta Hinderliter, NCSD #1 Homeless Program Facilitator,
between 200-250 homeless students per year benefit from this
program, which began in Natrona County in 1999. Students range
in age from pre-school to seniors in high school. Some live in
shelters, cars, and campers, while others roam from
house-to-house staying with friends.
"These numbers
only represents the 'known' students that are homeless," says
Hinderliter. "We are able to find more and more kids every year
that need our help. In some cases, the teachers or
administrators have a hunch something is going on, and in other
cases the kids find us."
"We heard Greta
speak about the needs of this program at a Rotary meeting in
April," said CYPN member Michelle Alexander. "We were looking
for a cause and this one just tugged at our heart-strings. We
contacted the Cavalry, and they agreed to help. It has turned
into more than we imagined."
Hinderliter
agreed. "It seems that after the speech at the Rotary, things
just started happening. We are very thankful for the involvement
and efforts of the CYPN and the Wyoming Cavalry. We're also
excited that some of our kids and their families will get to
attend the May 30 Cavalry game. It will be such a treat for
them."
